Hybrid Street Lighting in Mountain Conditions – Zakopane
In the town of Zakopane, on Droga do Olczy, Harenda, and Furmanowa streets, an investment was carried out to improve road traffic safety through the installation of modern 40 W hybrid LED street lights. The lighting system was designed for difficult terrain and climatic conditions typical of mountainous areas.
The project used the HLU-40W/400W/400W/6 m model, adapted for operation in Wind Zone III. The structure takes into account strong halny winds, frequent gusts, and high dynamic loads characteristic of the Podhale region.
The use of massive steel poles in this location is of key importance:
- poles with a round, tapered profile, made of S355 steel, provide high resistance to wind loads,
- the aerodynamic shape reduces vibration and resonance during strong gusts,
- the structure was specifically designed for mountain and halny wind conditions,
- a F1 foundation weighing 1,480 kg was used, ensuring stability even under extreme loads.
The LED luminaires were installed at a height of 6.5 m, allowing for uniform and effective illumination of the roadway and shoulders, improving visibility for both drivers and pedestrians after dark.
The hybrid system provides full energy autonomy. The lights operate for up to 11 hours per day at full power, and the energy storage system allows for a minimum of 44 hours of operation without access to solar energy, corresponding to at least four consecutive cloudy days in winter conditions.
The completed investment is an example of safe and durable road lighting, perfectly adapted to the demanding mountain conditions of Zakopane, increasing road user safety and infrastructure reliability throughout the year.
