Hybrid Street Lighting in a Mountain Zone – Zakopane

In the city of Zakopane, an investment project entitled “Improvement of safety through the construction of hybrid street lights” was implemented, covering the following streets: Huty, Cyrhla, Choćkowskie and Strachonie. The project was designed to enhance road user safety in demanding mountainous conditions.

Zakopane, located in the Polish mountains, is characterized by strong föhn (halny) winds, frequent precipitation and highly variable weather conditions. Therefore, the applied solutions were specifically adapted to severe climatic and terrain conditions.

As part of the investment, hybrid LED street lights model HLU-38W/400W/400W/6 m were installed, designed for operation in Wind Zone III – mountainous zone. The LED luminaires emit light with a neutral colour temperature of 4000 K and a luminous flux of 6100 lm, ensuring good visibility of the roadway and road shoulders even under adverse weather conditions.

The pole structures were manufactured in accordance with PN-EN 1090 from high-strength S325 steel. Each pole was mounted on a prefabricated F1 foundation with a mass of 1480 kg, ensuring stability and resistance to strong halny winds.

The poles, together with the structures for photovoltaic panels and a boom arm for a wind turbine, were designed and manufactured in accordance with the requirements of PN-EN 1991-1-4 for Wind Zone III, making them suitable for operation in mountainous areas of the Podhale region.

The hybrid system provides approximately 11 hours of daily operation at full power. The energy storage systems ensure a minimum of 44 hours of autonomy, corresponding to up to four consecutive cloudy, rainy and windless days without access to renewable energy sources.

The applied Polish-manufactured LED luminaires meet stringent quality standards and are covered by a 5-year warranty, confirming their durability and reliability in long-term operation under harsh mountainous conditions.

The completed investment constitutes a modern, durable and energy-efficient lighting solution that significantly improves safety on the streets of Zakopane, adapting road infrastructure to the specific characteristics of the mountainous climate and terrain.
