Pedestrian crossing lighting – “Together Safer” programme

A project involving the illumination of a pedestrian crossing was completed as part of government co-financing under the “Together Safer – Władysław Stasiak Programme” for the years 2022–2024, aimed at reducing crime and antisocial behaviour in public spaces.

The scope of the investment included the supply and installation of hybrid LED street lanterns with a power rating of 38 W, dedicated to pedestrian crossing lighting. The applied model HLU-38W/400W/400W/6m is equipped with an LED luminaire with a light colour temperature of 4000 K and a luminous flux of 5300 lm (after losses through the glass), ensuring high pedestrian visibility without causing glare to drivers.

The lanterns are fitted with asymmetric LED street luminaires (left- or right-sided), specifically designed for pedestrian crossings. The light distribution illuminates only the crossing zone, enhancing pedestrian silhouette contrast and increasing driver reaction time.

The applied LED luminaires are manufactured in Poland and comply with strict lighting standards, confirmed by ZETOM certification. The steel pole structures were manufactured in accordance with the EN 1090 standard, ensuring durability and operational safety.

The lighting system was integrated with active pedestrian crossing signs, which are automatically activated upon pedestrian detection, increasing driver awareness in the crossing area. In addition, solar-powered radar speed display signs were installed before the intersection, serving a preventive function and contributing to vehicle speed reduction.

Vertical signage was complemented by thick-layer horizontal road markings, including a high-visibility pedestrian crossing in a white-red colour scheme, as well as acoustic warning strips that further alert drivers to the approaching crossing.

The implemented solutions comply with the current requirements of the WR-D-41-4 regulation concerning pedestrian crossing lighting and form a comprehensive road traffic safety improvement system.
