Active Pedestrian Crossings – “Safer Together” Program, Mirzec
In the town of Mirzec, an investment was implemented under the government program “Safer Together”, aimed at improving pedestrian safety through the construction of modern, active pedestrian crossings powered by hybrid and solar technology.
The scope of the project included the installation of a hybrid active D-6 sign above the roadway and solar roadside active D-6 signs, forming a coherent and multi-level driver warning system.
Hybrid Active D-6 Sign – Overhead Pylon
The hybrid sign was mounted on a pylon structure with a 6-meter-long arm extending over the roadway, ensuring excellent visibility from a long distance.
- 2 LED flashers Ø 300 mm – flashing 24 hours a day,
- internal LED pylon illumination,
- dedicated LED lamp for illuminating the pedestrian crossing,
- motion sensor system – operation at 30% power in standby mode,
- automatic switch to 100% power when a pedestrian is detected.
This solution significantly increases pedestrian silhouette contrast and shortens driver reaction time while optimizing energy consumption.
Solar Active D-6 Signs – Roadside
The system is complemented by solar active D-6 roadside signs equipped with:
- 2 LED flashers Ø 100 mm,
- sensors detecting pedestrians at the moment of entering the crossing,
- radio communication between system components.
The signs activate only when a pedestrian is actually present, preventing driver habituation to constantly flashing signage.
Active Roadway Elements
Additionally, active LED road studs (“cat’s eyes”) were installed in the roadway surface, which:
- flash synchronously with the D-6 signs,
- mark the pedestrian crossing zone,
- increase crossing visibility from the driver’s perspective.
All implemented solutions form a comprehensive, intelligent, and energy-efficient safety system that effectively reduces accident risk and significantly enhances pedestrian protection in the town of Mirzec.
