Active Pedestrian Crossing – Skierniewice, St. Maximilian Kolbe Street
In the city of Skierniewice, an investment project entitled “Upgrading the pedestrian crossing on St. Maximilian Kolbe Street at the intersection with Parowozowa Street with road traffic safety devices” was implemented. The objective of the project was to increase the visibility of the crossing and improve pedestrian safety in the area of a junction of significant traffic importance.
As part of the project, an active pedestrian crossing was constructed, equipped with modern warning and illumination elements. 50 W LED street lights were installed, mounted on 4 m high aluminium poles, providing effective and uniform lighting of the crossing area.
Active D-6 pedestrian crossing signs were mounted on the poles, each equipped with two Ø200 mm LED flashers. The light signalling system is activated automatically, increasing the visibility of the crossing and reducing drivers’ reaction time.
An additional safety element of the system consists of active LED road studs (cat’s eyes) embedded in the road surface. These elements are activated simultaneously with the D-6 signs when a pedestrian is detected, clearly marking the crossing path and the vehicle stopping zone.
The investment also included the installation of a ground-mounted cabinet with a complete control switchgear, responsible for managing the operation of the lighting and active warning elements.
The implemented solutions form a coherent and modern system for improving road traffic safety, adapted to urban conditions and compliant with current traffic management standards in Skierniewice.
