Lighting of the Katyn Cross at the Agrykola Cemetery in Elbląg

At the Agrykola Cemetery in Elbląg, an investment project was carried out involving the illumination of the Katyn Cross—a site of particular historical, patriotic, and symbolic significance. The objective was to provide a dignified visual emphasis of the monument after dark and to improve safety and spatial clarity within the cemetery.

A 30 W solar LED street light was used for the project, operating fully autonomously without the need for connection to the power grid. This solution allowed the lighting to be installed without interference with the existing cemetery infrastructure and without disturbing the character of the memorial site.

A directional LED floodlight was used as the light source, enabling precise targeting of the light beam directly onto the Katyn Cross. This solution:

• provides focused and accurate illumination of the monument,
• eliminates unnecessary lighting of the surroundings,
• helps preserve the solemn and peaceful character of the memorial site,
• highlights the form and symbolism of the cross after dark.

The applied solar lighting operates in a silent, maintenance-free, and energy-efficient manner, aligning with the principles of ecological solutions used in public and sacred spaces.

The implementation in Elbląg demonstrates how modern solar technology can be used for the dignified commemoration of historical sites, while respecting their character and surroundings.
